More information : (SO 4032 5158). This building [see authority 2], mentioned by the RCHM as a house, is now apparently part of the Unicorn Hotel. This was formerly the Unicorn Inn [SO 45 SW 15] which is mentioned as immediately west of the building in question. The grid reference used here is that of the house immediately east of the Unicorn Inn as it is shown in a photograph in the RCHM volume [authority 2]. (1)
Two storey house timber-framed, and with slate and tile-covered roofs. It was built probably late in the 14th century but the roofing seems to have been altered in the 15th century. An outbuilding, projecting to the N, is probably a 15th century addition. (2)
Unicorn Hotel (formerly listed as Unicorn Guest House). House, now hotel. C14 with some mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Listed grade II*. [See DoE list for architectural details]. (3) |
