Summary : A 19th century rebuilding of a medieval hospital, now comprising a central low stone tower above a gateway, with wings extending on either side. The south wing was rebuilt in 1822, after designs of Sir Robert Smirke, and includes three stone gables. The north wing was rebuilt in 1866, also with three gables, these containing imitation timber framing. To the rear of the building is a continuous first floor verandah, forming a covered walk below. |

St Katherine's Hospital and Almshouses (formerly listed as St Katherine's Hospital). Founded in 1232 by Bishop Foliot, but no part of the original building remains. The south wing was rebuilt in 1822 and the north wing in 1866. Listed grade II. [See DoE list for details (2)
