is probably a vill of Swayfield. (1)
At the grid reference cited by authority 1 there are a number of
property boundaries associated with the present village of
Swayfield. While these probably had their origins in the medieval
period, they are not an indication of a deserted village. However,
there is an area of settlement further west which was mapped from
poor quality air photographs. On early photography it was visible
as earthworks but later as poorly defined cropmarks. It consists of
a possible rectangular building (SK 9860 2270), 20m by 8m, with a
small bank extending from the south west corner and at SK 9857 2270
a sub-circular enclosure with a diameter of 7m. Its function is
unclear. Between these and another enclosure at SK 9871 2271 more
features may exist but nothing could be plotted with any certainty.
