The motte was mapped from air photographs as part of the Hadrian's Wall NMP project. It has a diameter of up to 48 metres and, as stated above, is encircled by a ditch apart from its western extent which abuts the cliff edge. On vertical photographs dating to 1948 trackways are visible leading to and across the summit of the motte. Two of these lead to disturbed areas at NY 0340 3628 and NY 0339 3628 in the northern half of the summit of the motte but no specific structures are visible. (4-6)
