Hob Uid: 1516693
Location :

Grid Ref : SU0915457461
Summary : A possible Bronze Age barrow is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. It appears to be defined by an ditch enclosing a circular area measuring 33m in diameter. It is one of five barrows (NMR Monuments 1516699, 1516695, 1516690, 1002033) in a cemetery which is situated adjacent to a possible mortuary enclosure (NMR Monument 1516704) and close to a possible henge (NMR Monument 1002029). The barrow is situated on a gently sloping N-S aligned spur of land to the south of the river Avon. Other possibly associated monuments in the vicinity include Marden Henge, Hatfield Barrow and a small henge (NMR Monuments 215179, 215176,215182) which are to the north west across the river.
More information : A possible Bronze Age barrow is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. It appears to be defined by an irregular ditch enclosing an oval area measuirng 46m by 40m. It is one of five barrows (NMR Monument 1516699, 1516695, 1516690, 1002029) in a cemetery which is situated adjacent to a possible mortuary enclosure (NMR Monument 1516704) and close to a possible henge (NMR Monument 1002029).

The barrow is situated on a gently sloping N-S aligned spur of land to the south of the river Avon. It is centred at SU 0915 5745. The oval appearance of the barrow is relatively unusual and, although on the edge of a photo with poor control, does not seem to be the result of poor photo rectification. There is an amorphous lighter area of crop in the centre of the barrow but it is not clear if this is caused by a buried archaeological feature. Only hints of the barrow are visible on the photos listed in source 2.

Other possibly associated monuments in the vicinity include Marden Henge, Hatfield Barrow and a small henge (NMR Monuments 215179, 215176,215182) which are to the north west across the river.
(1-2)

Aerial photographs, taken as part of English Heritage aerial reconnaissance, record this barrow as a circular feature enclosing an area with a diameter of 33m. This was confirmed by rectification of the photograph. The Marden Henge environs NMP mapping has been updated.
