More information : The wreck of this vessel drifted ashore near Bude upside down. No clue as to the vessels name or nationality could be discovered at the time. The petroleum casks were all marked with a star, and the address 'Clark, Bain and Co., Refiners of Petroleum, Star Oil Works.' There were also a large number of boxes containing a dark purple paste similar to molasses, which was thought to be a dye.
A considerable quantity of cargo was washed ashore, and 400 casks and almost as many boxes were saved. The salvaged cargo had to be dragged by horse tackle to the top of the 200ft cliffs. Some coins were also picked up, one Swedish, and a chain bearing the name Hawns, and an anchor of about 2 cwt marked with the number 21645. Copper nails were also found, some of which were marked with a broad arrow. The remains of her two boats were later found, which suggested that her crew had perished. 500 barrels of petroleum, and 600 boxes of logwood extract sold for 126.
