County Of Salop

Hob Uid: 906097
Location :
Cornwall
Cornwall
Grid Ref : SS1593006700
Summary : ENGLISH CRAFT, 1892
More information : Was stranded in NNW force 8 conditions accompanied by snow and went
ashore between 4-5pm. The lifeboat and rocket apparatus went to the
nearest suitable point, which was about four miles from Bude, but the
state of the sea prevented the lifeboat from being used. The rocket
apparatus was used to rig a breeches buoy, and brought ashore the
crew as well as the captain's wife and child, the latter being lashed
to its mother's waist. The Liverpool Salvage Association examined the
wreck and reported that the engine bed plate and boilers had shifted
to starboard and that her bottom hull plates and keel were crushed
up or missing for 50ft. The wreck was sold at auction in Plymouth the
following Monday and went to a Mr Brendon of the Falcon Hotel for
650.
