More information : TA 2012 4667. Railway block.
This set of three anti-tank cubes were set on the railway behind Marlbrough Avenue in Hornsea. They were intended to prevent enemy tanks using the railway line as an easy way of movement in the event of an invasion. The cubes were all of reinforced concrete construction, and were plotted from aerial photographs dated 1945. The site was also visited by the Fortress Studies Group in 1992 during the Holderness Survey; they found the site to be totally destroyed. (1-1a)
The monument is also visible as upstanding structures on air photographs examined as part of the Rapid Coastal Assessment Survey of the Yorkshire and Humber Estuary. (2)
