Summary : First World War pillbox or sentry post. A small eleven sided concrete structure with a domed roof is located within the Lodge Hill Royal Naval Armament Depot (Monument 1077634). This one man sentry post was part of the defended perimeter of the Lodge Hill Depot, and was originally located at the east gate. The enclosure was later enlarged, so that the pillbox now sits 282m from the east gate and well inside the perimeter fence. It has been investigated in the field, and has been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. |
