Summary : A Roman inscribed tombstone was recovered from a site on Tower Hill and is now at the British Museum.

A Roman inscribed tombstone was found on Tower Hill in 1852. Now in the British Museum. The inscription reads:

"A. Alfid(ius) Pomp(tina) Olussa; ex testomento her(es) pos(uit); annor(um) LXX; na(tus) Atheni(s) h(ic) s(itus) est".

("Aubis Alfidius Olussa of the Pomptine tribe; set up by his heir in accordence with his will; aged 70; born at Athens; he lies here"). (1)
