Summary : Combined library, police and fire station dated 1901. Built of red brick with Bradford stone dressings, granite columns and a green Westmorland slate roof. The building is of two storeys with a small domed bellcote over the centre of the roof and a large stone tower over the left-hand end at corner. The Italiante style building is on a prominent corner site, it was possibly designed by W H Thorp. The police station was opened in 1902, the building having cost #6201, it closed in 1932 and was converted to Social Services premises. The building was converted to a Firkin public house and brewery in 1993-4. |
