St. Kentigern's Church at Crosthwaite was founded C.1175, and is on the "? site of St. Kentigern's preaching-cross C AD 600". There are traces of 14th C work, the fabric being widened and the tower rebuilt (partly of old material) in 1553. Fragments of the 12th C church were found in 1915. The Church was restored in 1844-5.
'Some old coins of silver' including a 'leaden coin of Stephen', found whilst restoring the church. The coins are in the Keswick Museum. (2,3)
