Castle How, Peel Wyke is a post Ro. promontory or spur stronghold, situated on a natural ridge of rock. The ground being steeply scarped on the two sides [N & S] there are no artificial defences, out on the village end [W] are four clearly defined crescent shaped trenches with outer ramparts. The other end, being rather more steep has two such trenches. The plateau, measuring 42 x 20 yds. is "dished out", so that round its perimeter the rock crops up to form a sort of breastwork. There is no evidence of any masonry or any other remains. [See plan AO:62:161:2 Authority 3] (2-3)

Listed under 'Camps and Settlements', and scheduled. (4)

The hillfort is masked by tree cover on aerial photographs and therefore was not transcribed by the Skiddaw NMP project.
