Summary : A possible Iron Age/Roman ditched enclosure is visible as earthworks on 1947 RAF vertical photography. Most of the site still survives as an earthwork, however a small section of the north west corner has been destroyed by housing.
More information : NZ 210526 Low Stanley Farm. Cropmark of a ditched enclosure, possibly representing an Iron Age or Romano-British enclosed settlement. (1) A possible Iron Age/Roman rectilinear enclosure is visible as earthworks on air photographs taken in 1947. The enclosure centred at NZ 2095 5254 measures 76m by 52m. It is comprised of a complete circuit of ditch with a complete circuit bank on the outside and an incomplete circuit of bank on the west and south on the inside of the ditch. Each bank and the ditch measure approximately 5m in width. Most of the enclosure still survives as an earthwork, however the northwest corner has been destroyed. (2)
