Summary : Gardens to The Moot and Moot House, created circa 1720 making use of the motte and bailey earthworks. Alterations took place during the 19th century.
More information : Early 18th century garden based on the medieval motte and bailey. The garden development is probably related to the 18th century remodelling of Moot House. Features include a walled kitchen garden, lawn, sundial and a topiary yew feature - the Giants Chair on a terrace west of the lawn. The central area of the motte and bailey is mainly wooded with mature trees, crossed by paths and a central lime avenue running east-west with a brickwork bridge, dated 1815. Elevated curving ringwork walks are also present. A formal theatre, pool and loggia were constructed in 1897. (1)
