Full description
1> Lower section of icehouse, attatched to Stivichall Hall, survives in rear
garden of 11 Knoll Croft, concealed through its conversion into rockery
feature by the present owners of property. Outline of icehouse and 'bowl' shape
of its base have been preserved to view. The upper part of structure survived
when houses were first built.
2> Icehouse in garden and stable court to the SE (of Court) survived for a few
more years. In 1964 site vacant etc.
3> Ice house, formerly attached to Stivichall Hall, rear of 11 and 12 (remains of). Only the underground part survives hidden beneath garden rockery. Record photographs exist of it in its complete form (see photocopy on back of building record card - 3/5/1960). This is the only known survival of any part of an icehouse within the Coventry boundary today, although there was formerly another example at Whitley Abbey, near Whitley Grove.
