Summary

Hill Gate, a medieval gatehouse built as part of the defensive circuit around the city. It was built in about 1355 but the date of its demolition is unknown. It's location is marked in the modern road surface.

Full description

1> Hill Gate (site).
2> Erected c1355, date of demolition unknown.
3> Depicted.
4> Hill Gate, or Hill St Gate, built during the 14th century, rebuilt 1423. Appears to have been a
rectangular, 2 storeyed gateway with embattled parapets. Removed after 1662 and
before 1849.
