Monument Types
- RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURE (Bronze Age to Late Iron Age - 2500 BC? to 42 AD?)
- ROUND BARROW (Bronze Age - 2500 BC to 801 BC)
Summary
Up to seven barrows have been recorded around Three Queens on aerial photographs. These include two clear cropmarks and one possible mound on the Leicestershire side, as well as a small rectangular enclosure measuring c.10x15m.
Additional Information
The Rev Wood of Knipton dug a mound on the Lincs side, found when the road was being widened and therefore almost certainly NOT one of the seven mentioned previously. It contained the remains of a woman, buried under two coping stones leant up against each other, and a flint scraper. (RFH 05/12/86)
