Full description
The earthworks of three medieval/post medieval hollow ways can be seen on lidar. These three routes are situated within Beaudesert New Park to the south and east of the hall. The most southerly of the three is largely within Alfred's Coppice. No trace of the route north of the coppice has been seen, but fragmentary earthwork to the south show where it joined the road to the north of the present East Lodge. Presumably this hollow way was abandoned when the lodge and new drive was constructed. The central hollow way extends westwards from the northern edge of Square Covert, ending to the east of Holly Clump (see PRN 58279). Part of its course survives as a field boundary. Both this and the third hollow way to the north may have connected with the southern hollow way in the vicinity of Holly Clump. The most northerly hollow way (also recorded as part of PRN 58279) extends north-east joining Horsey Lane at the north-west corner of George Hayes Wood. It is not known if these hollow ways were abandoned with the creation of Beaudesert New Park or reflect a later reorganisation. (EAC, 26-Jul-2017) <1>
