Summary : Ninteenth and twentieth century barracks associated with the Chattenden Magazines (Monument 1481790). Identified on OS maps of 1909 as Police Quarters and apparently manned by the Metropolitan Police until after the First World War, at which time the job of policing the magazines was given to the Royal Marines. The barracks, known as the Central Terrace, have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. |
