Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy located at Hoylake. It was built as part of the 'C-series' of civil decoys to deflect enemy bombing from Liverpool. This was a 'QF' decoy that consisted of a series of controlled fires lit during an air raid to replicate a target struck by bombs. It is referenced as being constructed in 1941 in use until 1943. Aerial photography from 1948 shows that the site had been given over to agricultural use and that no features of the decoy survived. Hoylake was one of fourteen civil bombing decoy sites for Liverpool. |

Aerial photography shows that by 1948 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. (2)
NGR concords with that given in source 1. The first civil decoys for Liverpool were in place by the summer of 1941. The bombing decoys for Liverpool had limited success, possibly because the decoys were positioned too far out from their intended targets. (3) |
