Summary : Extensive earthworks south of Malton Cote Farm may be those of a grange of Malton Priory.
More information : (SE 9046 8505) Old Foundations (NAT). (1) Supposed to be the foundations of Malton Cote old farmstead, alluded to in the Ebberston Award. (2) Extensive foundations S of Malton Cote are presumably those of a grange of Malton Priory (SE 77 SE 48). Published survey (25") revised. (3) Malton Cote was a grange of Malton Priory. It survived as well-preserved earthworks until 1987, and was surveyed in 1985. The earthworks have now been completely levelled by ploughing; although some below ground stratigraphy will survive, present evidence does not indicate the survival of remains of national importance. The site should however be investigated under Development Control procedures in the event of any proposed development. (4)
