More information : [SK 4111 9124 & 4134 9122]. Two Roman burial urns containing cremations were found in 1955 during extensions to the Templeborough Works. These, together with a similar urn found in 1927 east of the Fort, are in Rotherham Museum and one probably of 1st Century date. Two other cinerary urns, from Brinsworth farm, found about 1834, were considered to be from a cemetery attached to Templeborough Fort. (1-3) The urns uncovered in 1955 were found in September and December at approximately SK 4133 9120 and SK 4114 9124 respectively. Rotherham Museum has no better siting for the one recovered from the industrial annexe east of the fort, and no additional details of the 19th c. finds. One of the latter, however, is held by the Museum, and is classed as 3rd c. The whole area, from which these urns originate, is now covered by industrial development. (4)
