Two "portions of the cloister arcade...were discovered in 1876, and recreated at the west end of the north aisle..."It is said to date from 1175-1220, [But the author believes it to be earlier] (2)
Some flagstones, discovered in 1922, "cover a brick vault with a portion of the original cloister pavement at the junction of the south and east walks, between the chapter house and refectory. There was also found a wall footing and traces of a doorway..." (3)
Stone corbels, on the wall of the south aisle of the church, [TA 16 NE 111], indicate the position of the roofing of the north side of the cloister arcade. There is an arched recess in the same wall (a). There are no other extant remains. See G.P. AO/98/3 for SE aspect of corbells and recess. (4) |
