Sour Milk Hills. The remains of two round barrows composed of sand, dug into by rabbit catchers. Dimensions - A: 25ft x 20ft, 3ft high; B: 41ft N-S x 28ft E-W. (2) The two tumuli are as described by McDonnell but they are in very poor condition having been reduced almost to ground level. The name is still in local use. Published survey (25") revised. (3)
SE 5427 9461. Two round barrows at Sour Milk Hills. Scheduled RSM No. NY/24449. (4)
The two barrows were mapped as part of the North York Moors National Park NMP, visible as earthworks on air photographs, centred at SE 5428 9461. The barrows have a maximum diameter measuring 15m. As described by authority 2-3 above, the barrows are in poor condition having had pits dug into their centres at an uncertain date. The barrows are extant on the latest 2009 vertical photography.
