Summary : Devereux Tower in the north-west corner of the inner curtain wall was built between 1238 and 1275. It is of an irregular D-shaped plan with south-east staircase turret. Much of it was rebuilt from the mid 18th century including a 2-storey range. The Ordnance Office was located here in the mid 17th century and vacated in 1672. The upper level was modified as a gun platform in 1683 and in 1715 when a second floor was inserted.
