Airfield Bombing Decoy Q162a

Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy located at Mablethorpe. It was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Manby airfield, which was an armament training station during the Second World War. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy that displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in use during 1942. By the 1960s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. Further bombing decoys for Royal Air Force Manby were located at Hagnaby, Frithville and Sibsey.
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Mablethorpe (TF 477 845). It was constructed to deflect enemy bombing from RAF Manby airfield. It is referenced as being active on 12-AUG-1942. Further bombing decoys for RAF Manby were located at Hagnaby (TF 352 618), Sibsey (TF 367 528) and Frithville (TF 298 496). (1)

Aerial photography shows that by 1966 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. (2)
