More information : Boundary ditches and boundary banks of uncertain date are visible as earthworks on air photos and on lidar imagery around SE2051 7163. These features lie to the east of the Cast Hills possible Iron Age enclosed settlement (see UID 52167) but it is far from certain that these banks and ditches are associated with this complex.
These boundaries are depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1854 and labelled as ‘Trench’. The more easterly of the two boundaries is shown to continue further north on the map than can see on the air photos and lidar imagery. The map also shows a a very sinuous dashed line extending over a distance of some 750m and labelled ‘Track of Trench’ which cannot be discerned on the air photos or lidar imagery. (1-4)
