Hob Uid: 1024280
Location :
Greater London Authority
Richmond upon Thames
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : TQ1860073150
Summary : Tree lined avenue between Henry VIII's Mound (TQ 17 SE 21) and Oliver's Mound (TQ 17 SE 19) in Richmond Park and is shown on Rocque's 1741-5 of the park. A possible ramp on the eastern side of King Henry VIII's Mound suggests that there may have been a formal walk along the avenue, between the two mounds. Nothing survives of the avenue on the ground. It is now part of a protected vista extending from King Henry VIII's Mound to St Paul's Cathedral. The site of the avenue was recorded by RCHME field staff in 1995.
More information : TQ 1860 7315 - TQ 192 735 Line of Avenue

A tree lined avenue between Henry VIII's Mound (NMR No TQ 17 SE 21) and Oliver's Mound (NMR No TQ 17 SE 19) is shown on Rocque's 1741-5 map covering Richmond Park (1a). A possible ramp on the eastern side of King Henry VIII's Mound suggests that there may have been a formal walk along the avenue, between the two mounds. Nothing survives of the avenue on the ground.

The line is now part of a protected vista extending from King Henry VIII's Mound to St Paul's Cathedral.

The site of the avenue was recorded (but not surveyed) by the RCHME in March 1995 during the Royal Parks Project. See archive report. (1)
