Summary : The inscribed base of a Roman statue was recovered while digging the foundations of one of the Ordnance Offices in 1777. It is unclear exactly which building this refers to.

The inscribed base of a Roman statue while digging the foundations of the Ordnance Office at the Tower of London in 1777. It reads:

"D(is) Manib(us) T. Licini Ascani; V(ivis) s(ibi) f(ecit)".

("In memory of Titus Licinius Ascanius; He made this for himself in his lifetime.")

Other finds included coins of Amadius and Honorius and a stamped silver ingot "EX OFFE HONORINI" ("from the workshop of Honorius"). (1)
