Ratlinghope Priory

Hob Uid: 109230
Location :
Shropshire
Ratlinghope
Grid Ref : SO4027096900
Summary : St Giles Priory. By 1209 it had become a cell of Wigmore Abbey, there being a prior and a 'few' canons. Its value at the Dissolution was only £4. The only surviving remains is the Church of St Margaret, which was the priory church and became the parish church after the Dissolution. There are no remains of conventual buildings, but according to Cranage, tradition has it that some "old foundations were visible many years ago north of the church". No remains are visible. Last documented in 1535 when it was assessed, but it is not known whether any monks lived there at that time.
