In the east of the of the region, Wichnor Forge was operating by 1721 and in 1755 it was in the possession of the Lloyd family of Birmingham. (2)
Dr Erasmus Darwin and John Barker of Lichfield were the driving force in getting the Wychnor Ironworks started. By 1770 the ironworks were connected to the Trent and Mersey Canal. The ironworks were in operation for some 80 years. (3)
