Summary : Roman remains 16 feet south west of the White Tower comprised a fragment of masonry and flue pipe to a hypocaust and paving tiles. It is therefore suggested that the remains of a Roman building are in the vicinity.

A fragment of Roman masonry 2 feet by 9 inches by 1 foot was found 16 feet South West of the SW angle of the White Tower, 9 feet 6 inches below the surface. Nearby were found 4 flue pipes to an hypocaust and paving tiles. It is possible that there represent remains of a building in the vicinity. (1)
