Summary : Numerous Roman coins have been found within the Roman fort at South Shields. They extend from the Consular series to the reign of Arcadius, (383-408). A coin hoard consisting of at least 12 gold coins, and aboust 200 silver ones dating from Nero (54-68) to Commodus (180-193) was also found in the fort.
