More information : [SK 421 905.] Roman pottery of 2nd and 3rd century date, walling, and road material, were found in 1947-8 during the construction of a housing estate on Brinsworth Common, Miss. D. Greene considered the site to be a Roman settlement, but the pottery finds were disappointing.(1) Miss Greene's interpretation of the finds (See map diagram for copy of her plan) is the only evidence for a settlement. The area has been built over and there is no surface evidence of a settlement. No finds have been reported since 1948. A few sherds of coarse ware (now in Rotherham Museum) were the only pottery recovered during the operation; but its paucity may have been due to the use of mechanical diggers. (2)
