Location :

Summary : A large oval depression is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork east of Bat's Castle, Carhampton. It is not depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map; however, several features are depicted and annotated "old gravel pits" in the vicinity. It seems likely that this feature represents a backfilled gravel pit, presumably dating to the medieval or post medieval periods, and likely abandoned prior to the creation of Dunster Park in the mid-18th century.
