More information : Two possible Roman roadside quarries and a ditch are visible as cropmarks on historical air photos at NY4701 4540. The two areas of extraction are visible on either side of the Roman Brougham to Carlisle Road (now the A6), between High and Low Heskets. The ditch runs south-west to north-east across the course of the road and in parts seems to have been chased by quarrying. (1)
