Summary : A small medieval or post medieval quarry is visible on aerial photographs as an earthwork on the southern edge of Clannon Ball, above Farley Water, Brendon. The quarry is not depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of 1891, suggesting it was abandoned prior to this date. It lies close to a 19th century enclosure boundary, most likely constructed by the Knight family after acquiring the former Royal Forest of Exmoor in the mid 19th century. It is possible that the quarry is related to the construction of this boundary. |
