Summary : Goodge Street station was opened as Tottenham Court Road on 22 June 1907 by the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway as an intermediate station on its line from Charing Cross to Hampstead and Archway; now forming the basis of the present Northern line. The station was renamed Goodge Street 9th March 1908. Between 1940 and 1942 a deep-level shelter was built beneath the station, which later became the headquarters of General Eisenhower (see HOB UID 1491163).
