MONUMENT NO. 204516
County: Bath And North East Somerset
District: BATH AND NORTH EAST SOMERSET
Parish: DUNKERTON
Monument Number: ( ST 76 SW 13 )
BRONZE AGE   CAIRN   -2600 - -700
IRON AGE   HILLFORT   -800 - 43
IRON AGE   NON ANTIQUITY   -800 - 43
Supposed hillfort on Duncorn Hill, the suggestion based on scarps of artifical appearance seen from a nearby road. Field investigation in 1966, however, showed the scarps to be natural. A 'canedd' or piles of stones are noted on the hill in a late 18th century county history, but no trace of a cairn or pile of stones was found during field investigation and at that time had not been locally known 'within living memory'.
